16 May MELANIA TRUMP’S HOSPITALIZATION – ANALYSIS
FIRST LADY MELANIA TRUMP WAS HOSPITALIZED TO UNDERGO A COMPLICATED MEDICAL PROCEDURE ON MONDAY MORNING, MAY 14, 2018.
The American public was notified only subsequent to her hospital admission and the completion of the procedure. President Trump did not accompany his wife to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in order to suppress the news of the medical intervention until it was successfully completed.
The procedure was an embolization to block the perfusion of blood to a lesion in a part of the First Lady’s kidney. Particles of an occlusive material were inserted into a small renal blood vessel, through a catheter snaked from an incision into an upper leg artery all the way up the abdominal aorta to a small renal artery. This was accomplished under radio graphic visualization, and no surgical incision of the patient’s abdomen occurred.
The purpose o the embolization was to choke off oxygen to a lesion, that was described in the press reports as ‘benign.’ Such benign entities in a kidney are unusual. One such is a cyst, a fluid-filled space. A second is a benign tumor called an angiomyolipoma.
Questions arise subsequent to the limited information released thus far:
1. What symptoms or physical signs led to the diagnosis of a renal lesion? 2. How do her physicians know with certainty that the problem is “benign”? 3. What is the reason for all the secrecy?
The family’s contention is that Melania Trump is a private citizen, who as such deserves her privacy. However, a First Lady receives great public benefits – housing, meals, fee medical care, exclusive transportation, security etc. She also fulfills a significant national responsibility – the care and emotional support of the President of the United States.
More as the situation unfolds.
